Strength is achieved by modifying the aluminum-silicon alloy. Loads are assumed directly by the aluminum-silicon alloy and transferred directly to the steel backing.

Alloy composition, casting and heat treatment methodology enables the alloy to conform without compromising strength.
COMPATIBILITY
Ability to accommodate shaft to bearing contact through thin oil films
Silicon particles at the bearing surface function as a mild polishing agent that moderates crankshaft surface roughness and adapts to maintain oil film integrity.
EMERGENCY RUNNING
Ability to continue operation during temporary oil film breakdown
The tin element of the alloy provides lubricity and low melting point liquid lubricant.
ANTI-WEAR
Resistance to abrasion by shaft and dirt
Reduced wear is achieved by the relatively harder surface of the alloy. This feature and the tin and shaft interaction minimizes shaft abrasian.
EMBEDDABILITY
The ability to absorb dirt entrained in the oil without damage to the bearing or shaft
Since the aluminum alloy is significantly softer than crankshaft material, hard particles will be readily embeded rather than score the shaft.
ANTI-CORROSION
Ability to withstand chemical attack from degraded or contaminated oil.
Since the aluminum alloy is virtually impervious to contaminants related to degraded or contaminated lubricating oil.
APPLICATIONS Bimetal bearings are ideally suited as replacement bearings for general purpose American, Asian and European engine applications (passenger car and light trucks).
